This powerfully sweet scented deciduous Woodbine brings pale yellow and ivory blooms from midsummer to September. As the flowers fade the interest is maintained with glossy red berries that will attract wild birds to feed. Honeysuckle periclymenum 'Scentsation' will be perfect to climb up walls and fences but why not also place it to arch over gateways and pergolas so the delicious scent can be appreciated as you pass by. Height: 7m (22'). Spread: 1m (3').

Culinary information: The parboiled leaves are used as a vegetable and the flowers can be sucked for their sweet nectar, used as a vegetable or made into a syrup and pudding. A tea can also be made from the leaves, buds and flowers. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Grow honeysuckle in sunny or semi shaded sites in any moist, well drained soil. Prior to planting add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Be sure to provide the twining stems with an appropriate support, such as trellis or wires attached to fences and pergolas. Alternatively grow honeysuckle through shrubs and trees.

Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Pruning honeysuckle is best undertaken in summer, immediately after flowering. Remove any damaged or dead stems entirely. The remaining stems can then be pruned back to a pair of healthy buds.
