Plant Potentilla in a sunny site on any free draining soil. On clay soil, add plenty of coarse grit or sharp sand to improve drainage. When growing Potentilla standards in patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Water well and position in full sun.
Feed and water plants regularly throughout the growing season. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of border grown plants. Prune Potentilla stems back to within 3cm (1") of the previous year’s growth in spring to promote bushy growth and a multitude of flowers the following year.
