A unique new Penstemon with eye-catching blooms resembling bluebells! From June onwards, bell-shaped flowers in shades of blue, mauve and purple are produced in profusion along slender upright stems, creating a shimmering mass of colour. Flowering all summer right through until autumn, Penstemon 'Summer Bluebell' deserves a prominent place in perennial borders or patio containers. Easy to grow, these semi-evergreen perennials will come back year after year. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18"). Supplied as plug tray plants.

Pot up Penstemon plug plants into small pots or trays and grow them on in frost-free conditions. When plugs are fully rooted into their pots, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days and transplant into borders and patio containers. Penstemon plants dislike cold, wet soils in winter. Plant them in a well drained site, adding compost or well rotted manure to amend heavy clay soils. Choose a position in full sun or semi shade.

Feed and water Penstemon plants regularly until they are fully established. Cut back faded flower stems to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure around the crown of each plant in autumn or spring. Avoid pruning back old foliage until spring arrives, as this will help to protect the plant during winter.
