Wow! Here's a real show-stopping clematis with tons of fantastic big blue violet flowers – they're 12-14cm (5-6in) across! You'll only believe it when you see it. Outer petals are decorated with a pretty pink blush on their tips to prompt further amazement at this truly spectacular and energetic climber. Clematis 'Blue Explosion' will burst into flower in May with big, semi-double blooms appearing on last year's growth. These will brighten up your garden in early summer until about the end of June…but wait for it! It flowers AGAIN, producing 100s more blooms from July through to September on new growth with single blooms. You simply can't go wrong with this really special clematis variety. Plant 'Blue Explosion' in a sunny place against a wall or fence; or you can try it in a container with some fixed or free-standing supports. It will eagerly clamber and twine, spreading vertical colour and interest twice in the summer! Height: 300cm (118in). Spread: 100cm (39in). Pruning group 2. Supplied in 9cm pots.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

3 x 9cm Potted Plants (KA1017)

Grow Clematis in sheltered sunny borders in any moist, well drained soil. Clematis plants particularly dislike dry soils so add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve moisture retention in summer. Plant clematis with the top of the rootball positioned 7.5cm (3”) below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Be sure to provide the twining stems with an appropriate support, such as trellis or wires attached to fences and pergolas. Alternatively grow clematis up freestanding plant frames in patio containers. When planting in containers, use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. When pruning a group 2 clematis, remember that it flowers on new stems which develop from the previous year's growth. In spring, remove any damaged or dead stems entirely. The remaining stems can then be pruned back to a pair of healthy buds.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
