Pot up climbing fuchsia plugs and grow them on in warm frost free conditions until large enough to plant in their final positions. Fuchsia 'Lady in Black' can be planted in large containers or borders, in any moist, well drained soil. If planting in containers use a soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train the long stems onto a supportive climbing frame using soft twine. Position in a sunny or semi shaded site which is protected from cold winds over winter.
Feed and water climbing fuchsia plants regularly throughout the growing season. In autumn, move containers of climbing fuchsia plants to a bright, frost free position for the winter. They can be returned to the patio in the following spring when all risk of frost has passed. Prune out the oldest stems in spring when the fresh buds begin to break, and reduce the remaining stems to restrict their vigorous growth to the available space.
