Cypripedium Potting Mix – 5 kg

Phytesia’s specialist potting and planting substrate for Cypripedium orchids — a 5 kg bag. Formulated to replicate the lean, free-draining, mineral-rich conditions Cypripediums grow in naturally across woodland and alpine habitats.

Cypripediums are notoriously sensitive to rich, organic composts. Standard potting mixes retain too much moisture and nitrogen, encouraging root rot and discouraging the mycorrhizal fungi the plants depend on. Phytesia’s mix is at least 50% inorganic mineral material (pozzolana, lava grit, or similar), with a small proportion of finely composted bark to provide structure.

A blend of mineral aggregates (lava stone, pozzolana) and composted coconut fibre or pine bark. pH adjusted to slightly alkaline (7.0–7.5), matching the calcareous soils preferred by most Cypripedium species. No peat, no added fertiliser.

Use as the primary growing medium when planting or repotting Cypripedium. Mix with native soil for in-ground planting. Also suitable for Dactylorhiza and Epipactis when diluted 50:50 with garden soil.
