Fruit Trees for sale
Black currant (Ribes nigrum) is closely related to the red currant, but the berries are less suitable to snack on right from the bush. Black currants are very healthy and are ideal for cooking. You can make jam, cakes and tarts as well as delicious berry juice and liqueur with blackberries. Berry bushes are hardy, attractive woodland shrubs that can be planted as an edible hedge. If you wish to grow a hedge of berry bushes, combine them with other types of berries, such as red and white currants. Plant black currants in a sheltered spot in the garden in full sun or partial shade. Berry bushes can be pruned during early spring, but beware: black currants produce fruit on older wood (shoots grown during the previous season). Fertilize with organic fertilizer before flowering, during fruit development and in the autumn.
