Lakota was originally cultivated by the Indian Lakota tribe and then later improved by breeders and re-introduced into the market. The large pear-shaped fruits are deep-orange with a striking dark-green flamed strip underneath. The 25 cm fruits can weigh up to 3 kg. It is very decorative and extraordinarily tasty – deliciously sweet and nutty. The flesh is deep-orange and contains lots of vitamins. Lakota can be stored for a long time. It has the same fine qualities for frying as the Hubbarb.
