Hydrangea aspera Velvet & Lace – LARGE Sargent Hydrangea Plant on category Garden Plants
Hydrangea aspera ‘Velvet & Lace’ is a wonderful variety of Hydrangea that is sure to have every garden visitor standing to attention. This fabulous shrub has luxurious velvety foliage that does not give this excellent shrub the justice it deserves because as the end of Summer approaches it really comes into its own. It produces delightfully striking blooms that consist of blue or purple clusters surrounded by white flowers with flat petals. These flattened heads start blooming in August and can continue right up to the end of November in a mild garden! Bees and insects seem to love this plant so prepare for the wildlife that will be attracted to this Hydrangea. Due to it’s rounded habit this shrub looks amazing towards the back of a border where it will provide structure and colour. Also known as the Sargent hydrangea it likes areas that receive full sunlight or partial shade. A sassy shrub that looks brilliant in informal gardens and brings great texture and colour to beds and borders. It can also be grown in containers and used to create an enticing courtyard garden. Strong bushy plants supplied in approx. 7.5-10 litre containers. These really are one of the best Aspera forms of Hydrangea with large dome shaped lace cap flowers of soft purples bluish mauve and soft pinks – a joy to behold from in mid summer to early autumn.
